Sessions and Cookies not working in Internet Explorer

SUMMARY: SESSIONS and COOKIES do not work in Internet Explorer when the subdomain name includes an underscore.

Another one of those weekends. Every now and then this happens. You wake up on a Saturday morning, the sun is shining (which is even more uncommon here in ireland than the issue in my story today) and you think “Today I’m not going to do anything. Just chill out for a change.” Then you check your email (mistake no. 1) to find a message from a website visitor telling me that there is something wrong with the translation of certain elements on my website. I’m still optimistic and convinced that this is probably a small thing and that I will only need a few minutes to fix this (mistake no.2). Continue reading »

Cheap web design

A few examples of professional but cheap web design from Studio Stacks

It sounds horrible, cheap web design, but there is no other way to call our work. It does not refer to the quality, but to our prices. Our cheapest version is just $279. This will get you a professionally designed website that you can maintain yourself. No longer do you depend on your web designer, your cousin or a friend of a friend to change that one sentence. Or to change that picture. All websites from Studio Stacks offer the ability to login to your website and change everything you want to change yourself. We will provide you with a unique username and a password and thereby empowering you to take control of your own content. And all of that for just $279! That’s simply really cheap web design right? Creative with Social icons

Sometimes a website has a design that is very balanced in it’s colors and graphics. Actually, that’s how every website should be. But with current social trends on the web there is an extra challenge for designers: ‘How to make these icons fit in the design’. And why should you bother? You want people to connect to your content, so whatever the design of the site, as long as the icons are there, the site is web 2.0 optimized, right? Wrong! You should always try to make the icons blend into the design like they’re a real part of it. Definitely not making it look like it’s clearly something that has been added to the site at a later stage, just because you have to. Continue reading »

Lighten up Google

Google quite quickly became one of the world’s best known brands. Not just its name, but also its logo is recognized by millions or even billions. So making changes to the appearance of such an iconic brand can be very tricky. But despite the dangers Google decided to pimp its logo and the appearance of their search website as a whole.

Although the changes they applied are minor and very subtle, the result is a fresh and more appealing presentation of the big search engine and its result pages. The change that might even go unnoticed by some is the logo. Much of the shadow that was present before has been removed and the gradients (the transitions of one color to another) are warmer. The result is a more flat logo which doesn’t appear to be floating anymore. Continue reading »

Updating jQuery in WordPress

This article might not be very relevant for the most of you, but since it kept me busy for quite some time I do want to share it, just in case somebody else is looking for info on this.

WordPress is shipped with a version of jQuery included in it. But since jQuery is updating its functionality at a much higher pace than WordPress is, the current version of jQuery used in WordPress is not very up-to-date anymore. And this might be necessary in some cases. Continue reading »

Use Facebook api to promote your website

Last week Facebook made a few major announcements and introduced a few new features among which the Like-button. If you’re a Facebook user yourself you’re probably already familiar with this: whenever somebody posts something on Facebook you can click the Like-button to express that you’re supporting whatever this person just posted.

The new Facebook API to promote your website Continue reading »
